Free Poker Tips (Yes This One is a Goldmine)

by moneytize on December 2, 2010

Today, I want to tell you guys how to destroy at micro stakes poker (aka: being able to beat 99% of the people on the planet), but first, let me give you a little update on how the month has been going so far!

One Night of Poker Just Paid for My Next Semester of School!

If you know me, you know that this year has been tough poker wise. I’ve been playing full ring No-Limit Holdem for about two years now making good money. I have been breaking even for the last 2-3 months and getting pretty frustrated in general with the games at full ring. Almost all the players are now regular tight opponents. Sure they make mistakes a lot but not as the recreational players do.

I decided to make some changes this month. I decided to go back to school to try and finish a business degree (mostly for networking and having fun… I do miss the college lifestyle!) and in the mean time, work online making money. Poker was going to be a minor factor until recently.

I had some money left over online and decided to start grinding out some $25NL 6-max games. I haven’t played these games in a very long time so I sat down to see what they were like two years later. Sure enough, there are tons of fish and even the regular players put in way too much money behind. I was really happy to see how loose people played at these games!

Long story short, I did very well the last two days (4 sessions) and made just under $400 (15.5 buyins) in just under 7 hours! I will be putting this money toward tuition at the local JC down the street and be happy that poker is paying for college and I don’t have to work. I am truly grateful that I can play a game I love for a living. Not many people can do something they like and get away with it for a long period of time. It is sad but true.

Secrets to Crushing Micro Stakes No Limit Holdem!

OK so there really are no secrets. If anyone tells you there are, they are lying. Poker has nothing to do with tricks, out bluffing people, or counting cards (you can’t count cards in poker yet I still hear people say it which makes me laugh). Poker is all about playing smart, logical, mathematical poker and not making any mistakes. Did I say make a small mistake here or there to gamble it up? No. Poker is literally sitting there and being perfect. That’s why they call it grinding. If you want to gamble or play bad, just stop here and don’t read on. You will never make it as a winning poker player.

So we established that poker is about playing “correctly” and not deviating from that. OK, so what does “correctly” mean? Well, that will take a very long time to teach and to be honest, I don’t think anyone is 100% correct every time, but we can get as close as possible. The way to do this is to read, watch, study, and seek advice from those whom are better than you. This is true with everything in life so it should be no different with poker.

The best source for poker “tips” is over at TwoPlusTwo. Seriously, they have a goldmine over there! Their Concept of the Week (COTW) is amazing if you have not seen it already! A lot of winning players from the micro stakes to high stakes all pitch in their abundance of knowledge in a certain aspect of poker. This has been going on for months so you literally have a whole huge list of topics that you can study whenever you want!

I suggest picking one or two concepts per day and just going over it and thinking about it. If you can, go into your hand history database and dissect you and your opponent’s play. You will grow into a huge winner in no time. Literally, if you are smart and have the work ethic, you can be grinding out a few hundred dollar days in just a few months!

If you currently play poker, please post what games you play down in the comments and if you can, tell us what the best learning source for you was?

I’ll go first! I’m playing $25NL 6-max and looking to move up any day to $50NL. I learned mostly through watching Deuces Cracked and reading 2p2

A couple of my clients play poker and it always amazes me how much money they make. One of them is already a millionaire and making 10k on a poker game is just chump change for him and he just does it for fun. Ah well guess I have some more learning to do ;)

Good stuff, Patrick. Back when I was in college, I used to play online poker ALL THE TIME – it paid for my entire 4 years and I never had to work during that time.

Your tip about 2p2 is spot on – I used to be a very active participant there, and I have to say, I miss those forums and playing poker (haven’t played in a few years). Reading a post about poker really brings back some good memories (and some bad ones too for sure).

That is cool dude! Ya, poker has gotten way tougher. It is harder for recreational players to load money, there are more training sties, and the overall level of play is much more solid than it was even a year or two ago. I think the good ol days are long gone :(

Howdy! Do you know if they make any plugins to assist with SEO?
I’m trying to get my blog to rank for some targeted keywords but I’m not seeing very good success.

If you know of any please share. Appreciate it!

An interesting thing that you should keep in mind when it comes to
poker online, is that you have the opportunity to play poker for
free. If you want to try out Omaha or Stud instead of
Texas Hold Em, then there many games to try out. These are certain very important questions confronting any individual.
